IIT Bombay QS Ranking: India has been included in the list of the top 150 international higher educational institutions in the world for the first time. IIT Bombay has been ranked 149th in the QS World University Rankings 2024, marking an improvement of 23 places for the institution.

While it is a matter of concern that India’s top science institute, IISc (Indian Institute of Science), held the top position in the country last year with a ranking of 155th, it has dropped to 225th in the current rankings. Similarly, there has been a significant decline in the ranking of IIT Delhi, which now holds the 197th position.

MIT Ranked the Best in the World This Time Too

MIT has once again secured the top position in the world, according to the recently released QS World University Rankings 2024. The University of Cambridge follows in second place, while the University of Oxford takes third place. Harvard University ranks fourth, Stanford University is fifth, and Imperial College London is sixth.

45 Indian Universities on the list

45 Indian universities have secured a place in the international rankings. This year, one institute is missing from the list of the top 200. Among the rankings, two universities are in the top 200, six in the top 300, and 11 in the top 500. The Indian higher education system is the seventh most represented in the world and the third most represented in Asia, following Japan and China.

This year, there has been a decline in the rankings of 13 universities compared to last year, while 15 institutions have improved and 22 universities have shown better performance. The rankings for 2024 have introduced three new indicators, including student-teacher ratio and academic reputation indicators, among others.

DU Ranks in the Top 500

Delhi University and Anna University have made it to the list of the top 500 universities in the world for the first time. In addition, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, University of Delhi, JNU, IIT Bhubaneswar, Panjab University, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, and VIT have improved their rankings. On the other hand, the ranks of IIAC Bangalore, IIT Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Madras, Indore, Hyderabad, Savitribai Phule University Pune, Jadavpur University, OP Jindal, and Jamia Millia Islamia have declined.

Four New Universities, Including Delhi’s IPU, Made It To The List

For the first time, four new Indian universities, including Delhi’s Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, have made it to the rankings. These universities are the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Chitkara University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, and the Indian Statistical Institute.

IIT Bombay’s Rank Improves Due to Research Quality
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has emerged as the new torchbearer for Indian higher education. Its continuous improvement in research quality and reputation over the last five years has earned it a place in the top 150 list. There has been a notable increase of about 17 percent in research output in the fields of engineering, technology, and the natural sciences. The research quality is evident, as 30 percent of its output is published in the top 10 percent of academic journals with impact. This percentage is 6 percent higher than the global average and 15 percent higher than the average for Indian institutions.
