JNU to establish new study centres

JNU: The Jawaharlal Nehru University has declared that it is going to establish new centres for Hindu studies, Buddhist studies, and Jain studies. 

These three new study centres will be opened under the school of Sanskrit and Indic studies at the JNU university. The executive council of JNU has approved the decision to set up the new centres in a meeting conducted on 29 May, 2024.

The decision was made following the recommendations of a committee established by the university to examine and provide suggestions on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Indian Knowledge System.

According to an official JNU notification dated July 9, “The Executive Council, in its meeting held on May 29, 2024, approved the recommendations of the committee formed to explore and advise on NEP-2020 and the Indian Knowledge System, and its subsequent implementation at the University. This includes the establishment of the following centres within the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies.”

In March of this year, the University of Delhi (DU) received approval from the Ministry of Minority Affairs to start a centre for advanced studies in Buddhist studies. Previously, the university inaugurated a centre for Hindu studies, offering an MA degree in Hindu studies.
