Maharashtra Teacher Recruitment 2023: The Maharashtra government has announced its decision to recruit 50,000 teachers for state schools. School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar shared this information on Friday. He also claimed that the decline in Maharashtra’s ranking in the Education Performance Grading Index was attributed to a new method of evaluation.

Maharashtra to Recruit 50,000 Teachers in Two Phases:

School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar announced the recruitment of 50,000 teachers for state schools. 30,000 posts will be filled in the first phase, and the remaining 20,000 in the second phase.

Pre-primary Classes to Begin in 17,000 Schools:

Retired teachers will fill the gaps until the new teachers are hired, ensuring no inconvenience to students. Pre-primary classes will start in 17,000 schools.

Change in Evaluation Method for the Education Performance Grading Index (PGI):

Maharashtra’s decline from 2nd to 7th position in the PGI is due to new norms where no state ranks in the top five. All others secured the 7th position. Concerns raised by NCP chief Sharad Pawar will be addressed.

Aided Schools Seek Government Status:

Aided schools, which get no help from Central schemes, hope for government status to access Union government schemes. A proposal is pending with the Centre.

Introducing Technology for Student Assessment:

The education department plans to use cutting-edge technology for student evaluation, similar to Kaun Banega Crorepati, enabling precise assessment and personalized guidance.
