NEET UG 2023 Exam Review: Complete Analysis

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in medical colleges across India on May 7, 2023. As per the reports, NEET-UG 2023 was conducted in pen and paper mode in 13 languages ​​in approximately 499 cities across India and other countries. NEET-UG 2023 consisted of 200 questions from Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, divided into two sections, A and B, each with 35 and 15 questions, respectively.

The NEET-UG 2023 paper was NCERT-based, and according to the paper analysis conducted by Dr. Brijesh Maheshwari, the Physics and Chemistry sections were relatively easy, while Biology was long and contained few errors.

NEET UG 2023 Review: Physics Section Analysis

In Physics, the paper had 30 questions from class 12th syllabus and 20 questions from class 11th syllabus. The paper had 16 questions from Mechanics, which was slightly challenging, and two questions each from Thermal Physics, SHM, and Waves, which were easy. Electrodynamics had 18 questions, which was a bit difficult, and four questions from Optics and eight from Modern & Electronics, which were less challenging. There was a mistake in one question on the topic of Rotational Motion of Mechanics in Physics, where the answer was not matching as the route was missing in the option.

NEET UG 2023 Review: Chemistry Section Analysis

According to the Chemistry paper analysis, the paper was easier than last year. The Physical Chemistry section had 15 questions, the Organic Chemistry section had 18 questions, and the Inorganic Chemistry section had 17 questions. Of the 50 questions in the paper, 23 were from the class 11th syllabus, and 27 were from the class 12th syllabus. In Physical Chemistry, eight questions were asked from the class 12th syllabus and seven from the class 11th. In Inorganic Chemistry, a total of seven questions were asked from the class 10th and class 12th syllabus, and three questions were asked from the class 11th syllabus. In Organic Chemistry, six questions were asked from the class 11th syllabus and 12 questions were asked from the class 12th syllabus. Overall, the level of all questions in the NCERT-based paper was easy, but Chemistry was rated the most challenging of all subjects.

NEET UG 2023 Review: Biology Section Analysis

In Biology, the paper was longer than last year, and the students had to attempt 100 questions, with 47 questions from class 11th syllabus and 53 questions from class 12th syllabus. Botany had 26 questions from class 11th and 24 questions from class 12th, while Zoology had 27 questions from class 11th and 23 questions from class 12th. The questions of Assertion Reasoning were conceptually based. However, there were some mistakes in the paper, with miss-printing in some Biology questions and incorrect Hindi translations for some questions.

NEET UG 2023 Review: Expected Cut Off

The expected marks to secure a seat in government colleges (All India Quota) are similar to the previous year (2022), ranging from 580 to 610. This is due to the nearly 19 lakh students who attended the exam, which is approximately 18% higher than the previous year. Therefore, the expected marks might range from 590 to 620.

In conclusion, NEET-UG 2023 was conducted successfully, with no reports of any major issues. The paper was relatively easy, except for Chemistry, and Biology was long with a few errors. The students can expect their results in a few weeks, which will determine their eligibility for admission to medical colleges across India.
