Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary on Saturday said that the National Education Policy 2020 will guide their efforts in the education sector of the country for the next decade or so. “We will sensitize children in the school system itself. The Finance Minister has just told in the budget that the workers of the country who are registered in the labour portal also have to be skilled. If you add 30 crore more, then we have been given a very big target to reach more than half of the country’s population through the programmes of our ministry,” he told reporters. 

 

Jayant Chaudhary is the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as well as Minister of State in the Education Department in the Government of India. He represents Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha and previously served in the 15th Lok Sabha. Born on December  27, 1978, he holds a master’s degree in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

As a parliamentarian, he has been actively involved in legislative matters, notably advancing discussions on land acquisition through a Private Member Bill in the Lok Sabha. Jayant Chaudhary has contributed to various parliamentary committees including Commerce, Finance, Agriculture, and Ethics. As a member of the Rajya Sabha, he has dedicated his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds to enhance sports infrastructure and foster a conducive sporting ecosystem.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during her her Budget speech, announced a new centrally-sponsored skilling scheme that will train 20 lakh youth for a 5 year period. She pointed out that the government will provide 12-month internship opportunities to 1 crore youth in top 500 companies for a 5 year period. The government will give internship allowance of Rs 5,000 per month and a one time assistance of Rs 6000. The companies will bear training cost and 12 per cent of the internship cost. 

“I am happy to announce a new centrally sponsored scheme, as the fourth scheme under the PM’s package for skilling and collaborations with state governments and industry. 20 lakh youth will be skilled over a five-year period. 1,000 industrial training institutes will be upgraded in hub and spoke arrangements with outcome orientation,” said FM Sitharaman.
